no. that isn't the sound that I'm talking about.

This literally sounds like a high pitch chirp. I notice it happens a lotta
times after readying something in a text field, etc.

Chris.

Are you sure you do not have caps lock on? That happened to me a few days
ago, and it turned out that I had caps lock on. Vo has a setting that plays a
"tone" when caps lock is on and you are typing, which is enabled by default (I
think).

    Harry,

Are you talking about that really really loud chirping sound that almost
sounds kind of like a NexTel walky talky bleep?

If so, I too have wondered what that is, though I rarely hear it, but man,
you're right, when I do hear it, it scares the crap outta me!

    Hi, guys,

This is not specific to Mountain Lion; I noticed it in Snow Leopard and
Lion as well. Sometimes when I am typing in an edit field (I think both e-mail
and on the web, as well) sometimes I will hear a loud short noise -- it isn't
the spelling suggestion noise -- it almost sounds like an error sound or
something. It has happened multiple places, and I wasn't sure what it meant.
I wish I could think of a specific circumstance under which it has happened, or
what I might have been typing when it did. I think when I was typing in the
Google search field on the tool bar in Safari, actually, I have seen it happen
before.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Harry
