Harry,
Are you talking about that really really loud chirping sound that almost
sounds kind of like a NexTel walky talky bleep?
If so, I too have wondered what that is, though I rarely hear it, but man,
you're right, when I do hear it, it scares the crap outta me!
Chris.

Subject: Loud Beeping Noise
Hi, guys,
This is not specific to Mountain Lion; I noticed it in Snow Leopard and Lion
as well. Sometimes when I am typing in an edit field (I think both e-mail
and on the web, as well) sometimes I will hear a loud short noise -- it
isn't the spelling suggestion noise -- it almost sounds like an error sound
or something. It has happened multiple places, and I wasn't sure what it
meant. I wish I could think of a specific circumstance under which it has
happened, or what I might have been typing when it did. I think when I was
typing in the Google search field on the tool bar in Safari, actually, I
have seen it happen before.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
Harry
