I just noticed that when expanding mail messages with VO-space bar, sometimes the focus is in the wrong place, apparently, and it opens up the "sort by menu" where you are able to sort by attachments, date, from, etc. So far, my only complaint is that they took the expand mail messages keystroke away for VoiceOver; I find this new one to be a bit awkward.
