Missie, Also bare in mind that it could a been taking a while as Spotlight may a been indexing your files and other stuff. That always tends to slow it down just a tad, until it's done.
I'm with you, I'd not worry too much about it. Now, if you wait 20 minutes and the thing doesn't boot? Then? I'd be getting a bit worried. LOL! Oh please! let's not give it any ideas. LOL! Hush! Honestly, I see no need to mess with the stuff that runs at startup. As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. This last time I started up, it was noticeably faster, so it could be that it's all settled in now and ready to work. I've still got a few things I need to figure out, mostly the notifications center, but I'll worry about that another day. For now, I'm just happy that everything is working as well as it is. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Christopher-Mark Gilland Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2012 11:41 PM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: start up times with ML? Missie, Just go into system prefs, then go to user accounts, and then to the login items tab. Be careful though. Don't remove anything if you're in doubt what it is or does. Startup time under ML is a bit on the slow side, especially when compared to snow leopard, but, on the plus side, Voiceover starts as expected. At least on my system, that couldn't be said for lion. So, it's worth the slower startup to have VO behave as expected. I'd be interested to find if there are any apps I could remove from startup, but I can't remember how to access that area, and on the whole, I'd rather leave it alone if its working. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Christopher-Mark Gilland Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2012 11:01 PM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: start up times with ML? SL definitely bootted quite faster than Lion, let alone Mountain Lion. I think this question's quite subjective, as it really depends on a lot of things, as you said, hd rpm speed, solid state or not, how the startup disk is connected, SATA, vs. ATA, USB, Firewire, Thunderbolt, etc. You're processor also can play a factor, as an I5 is gonna be logically faster than say, an I4. Also how full is the drive, and what login items do you have running at startup and what daemons/services are running at startup. So, it's really difficult as you see to give an exact average boot up time, but I'd say, for me at least, it's around a minute and a half, maybe 2 minutes pushing it, soaken wet. When I was running SL, my Mac was fully started in just about 30 seconds. Now, under Lion, it isn't fully started up until about a minute and 30 seconds. Given this, what kinds of start up times can I expect with ML on my Mac? My unit is a 15 inch Mac book pro dating back to November 2009, 4Gb RAM, 500 GB 72000 RPM 500 drive. Thanks.
