Apparently vm is fine.
I don't have iCloud set up, it scares me marginally more than iTunes with regard to loss and salvation of my data. Posts on list suggest its use is paramount. Should I set up iCloud before install? Is its use necessary? If I set it up, any tips for not losing everything from Mac, iPhone and iPad!?

Ok, Les, how do you know when it's ok to turn VoiceOver on when you're installing Mountain lion? I got my computer three days before Lion, and I did my install of Lion at the Apple store. I mean, until you get VoiceOver going, your computer has gone bye-bye for a while.

Your question is a good one. Let me assure you that you can do this. First, you should do a complete backup of all of your data. Also, make certain your programs are all up-to-date. You can check in the App Store by searching for the word Updates to see if there are any updates available. It's also a good idea to run Software Update to make certain you have the most current updates for Lion. Now, once you've done this, just purchase Mountain Lion. It will download and your system will re-boot. You may have to turn on VO when your system restarts, but you will then have speech through the remainder of the installation process. It took me about an hour to do the install, just finished, and all went well.

Hi all,
I plan to install ML on Friday or Saturday, when I come back from being away. However, my Mac, which I got 10 months ago, came with Lion installed. So I've never had to install anything big like this on a Mac before

I'm not very good at doing this sort of thing, so I wondered if there was a pod cast or some tips which I could use when I install it so that I get it right.

Is there anything I need to do before I install?

Where do I put it?

Will it more or less do it for me? Or do I have to get it to do things.

If anybody could direct me in the right place that would be great.

Sounds totally inept and stupid I know… But…

There's no rush, as I said, I won't be doing it till the weekend.

Thanks.
Kirsten
