Hello Mel, This web site is clearly not designed with accessibility in mind. When I couldn't find a link name that appeared to be associated with a download or media player I tried to check the link images. The seventh item on the links menu of the web rotor, which has a name that starts with "Pic" and then number for a July 16, 2012 calendar date, followed by a few more numbers and a "jpg" extension turned out to be to a YouTube video with the URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSr_EGOFYrU&feature=youtu.be I don't know whether you can play this on your Mac, depending on your settings. I do have Adobe flash enabled on my Mac for those times when I have to find something where there's flash. However, this video appears to available in HTML5, which means that it will play on iOS devices and systems without flash.
The name of the YouTube page is: "Hangout with Deepak, Paulo Coehlo, Vicente Fox, Lisa Ling, Fran Drescher, Eric Handler, and more!" If you have an iOS device of any sort, you can go to the YouTube app and type in "Hangout with Deepak" into the search box to get this and play it in a totally accessible manner! I don't know how you're supposed to download this, and I didn't read anything on that web page about downloading a YouTube video. There is a site called dirpy.com that lets you perform audio and video downloads of YouTube videos, and it works reliably and accessibly. But these functions don't seem to be working today. When I visit the URL: http://dirpy.com/ there is a message: "We are looking at the YouTube issue and will have an update as soon as possible. Thank you." Normally, I could just paste in the URL from the YouTube address bar into the text box and press return to get a page of with the matching video and download options. Today, doing that presents me with a page of random YouTube links. Typing in the search term "Hangout with Deepak, Paulo Coehlo, Vicente Fox, Lisa Ling, Fran Drescher, Eric Handler, and more!" and pressing return does give me a page with two links -- one to the actual video and another to a short preview video that was put out to announce the event, but none of the controls that let you select the audio or video format you want to download appear today. I guess this is part of the "YouTube issue" that they are looking into. By the way, you'll only be able to do the conversion if you have Adobe Flash player support on your Mac, which now has to be explicitly downloaded. It doesn't come as part of the Mac computer systems any more, and it really was a source of performance problems on some machines, as well as being an accessibility sore. If you want to read more details about how to use the Dirpy site (assuming they fix the YouTube access issue, and you can play Flash), check my forum post at the Mail Archive site: • Re: accessible youtube to mp3 converter http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries@googlegroups.com/msg58313.html Really the only warning is that the downloads (when this is working) happen really fast after you make your selections and with no alerts, so you should just check your Downloads folder. However, if you read down the thread (with Control-n), you'll find a post from someone who got the mp3 download working, but wanted the video download as well, and my response goes through a step-by-step description of the controls. It turns out that the second time the user tried it, using the same steps as before, everything worked for the video download as well, so my reply was not really needed, but if you want to read a detailed description about the layout of the "Record Video" and "Record Audio" controls for the dirpy.com site, pressing control-n twice after opening the link I gave above, will navigate to first the question post about video and my response. HTH. If it's any consolation, I don't understand that website, either. Cheers, Esther On Jul 22, 2012, at 12:56 PM, Mary Scott wrote: > > > I just don't understand this website.
