Another excellent mic at roughly 2x the price. So some of this depends
on your budget. A number of folks also like to use a matched pair of
mics to record acoustic guitar so if you're going that route you might
want to go cheaper. Another favorite is the Neumann KM184 which is
probably the next step up in price after the AKG.

Mackie mixer since I have a number of channels going, so I don't have
a standalone XLR pre-amp. Poking around, this one seems nice:

mini-headphone, 1/4" phono plugs and USB. So you could use a 1/4" to
mini cable to run it into your iPhone or use the USB to your mac. The
USB is bi-directional meaning that you could also play audio back
into the box and hear it on your headphones. Not sure if you can go
both ways at the same time to, say, play along with accompaniment or
a click track.
