Thank you! thank you Ray! It's so simple when you know how. That's what I
love about VO and the Mac already, it all makes sense!. I just have to hope
my memory can stand the combinations and my hands can stretch lol!

Thanks again.

Kirsten.

Hi Kirsten,

First, welcome to the Mac world. My name is Ray; well, that's what they
call me anyhow.

First, let me deal with your Skype question. You will find the Mac version
of Skype over at:

www.skype.com

not the app store. Kind of a bummer but that's how it works for now.

2. You can delete an app you don't wish to have anymore by simply going in
to your apps folder, (just press shift+command+a to get there quickly) then,
arrow up or down till you find the app you want, (first letter navigation
works well here) and when you focus on the app you wish to delete, all you
do is just press the delete key and then it's in your trash.

As an aside, empty your trash quickly by pressing
command+shift+delete.

3. To quickly move to the end and beginning of a document, just use VO+home
to go to the beginnign and VO+end to go to the botom. Note that on a Mac
book pro, as doubtless you have already found out, you'll need to press the
FN key directly to the left of the control key to do this. FN+left = home.

FN+right=end.

FN+up=page up

FN+down=page down.

Now, here's another tip.

To access Voice over help at any time, jus press VO+h. From this point, you
can access many things; including a list of every VO command you can use.
Note that in order to make it faster to use, VO commands are catigorized.

As to your mail questions, others who use mail might be better at helping
you then I; particularly when it comes to such things as mail box
organization.

HTH.

PS. you're gonna love it here.

Sincerely,

The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!!

Now a very proud and happy Mac user!!!

Dear all,
Yesterday I joined the world of the Mac! I bought a new Mac Book Pro from my
local Apple store and have been happily playing with it ever since instead
of doing the things I should be.
I'm sorry that below are so many questions, but as usual with these things,
it's the little niggly things which are annoying. I've decided to include
them in my one message rather than sending a raft of messages. Sorry if this
in any way contravenes the rules of the list.
I am also sorry if these seem simple and obvious!
1. Email:
A. Is there an easier way of navigating the inbox? Currently I can hear
everything, all headers or I can arrow down in one section only either
getting the name or subject etc but not the rest.
B. When it's downloading it says 'Busy' and I can't seem to get it to do
anything, is there a way round this?
C. Can I create separate folders for different lots of messages?
D. is there a quicker way of reading the message than letting it read the
whole thing? Can I read line b line?
E. Is there a quicker way of closing the message than going to the toolbar
and close?
F. When I was writing this message earlier, I inadvertently managed to move
out of the message and I couldn't find it anywhere, only getting it back
when I closed and then reopened the mail appp, where might I be able to find
the message in future if this happens to me again? I looked in drafts but it
wasn't in there.
2. Apps:
A. The Facebook I downloaded seems to be inaccessible, it says 'button'
rather than the labels so is difficult to navigate. Is there an accessible
version?
B. Is there a version of Skype for the Mac? I can't seem to find anything
when I type Skype into the app store.
C. How do you delete/remove apps if you find they are not useful?

3. VO keystrokes:
I went through the VO start up tutorial but I seem to be missing some
commands, how do you:
A. move to top or bottom of a document of screen?
B. How can I get the cursor to go quickly to the start of oend of the line?
C. How do you move the insertion point?
D. If I end up somewhere I don't want to be is there a quick keystroke or
swipe motion I can use to get out of it and back to where I was?
I am using the trackpad with gestures and am trying to learn the VO keys,
though the trackpad is easy to use as it's similar to an IPhone.

4. Edit fields:
Is there a way to get it to give you a character count so when you're in a
password field it might say 'password edit, 7 characters'
5. Calendar:
I have synced my IPhone calendar with Ical, but though I know there are
events there, I can't seem to get it to read them. I've tried interacting
but I'm not having any luck. Also, I can't seem to get beyond the end of
this week. Does anyone have any tips for making the best use of Ical?

6. Voices:
I have it set to Alex currently, but I would like to try Sarena. I can
access it in the preferences, but if I click on download, do I have to pay
for it? Is this done through my iTunes or Apple account? If I download
Serena and decide I don't like it, can I revert to Alex?
Thank you all, I'm sure this won't be the last message I send! I'm also
going to look in the archives to see what useful tips I can find.
Kirsten.
