If yours is anything like mine, this is what's most likely happening to you. The built in microphone is located just off the corner of the FN key on the left side. Most likely the microphone has fallen or is in danger of falling out of it's place. I sent mine off to Apple; but, for some reason, despite the text on the order sheet, it was not repaired. Therefore, I just bought a Griffen Imic and use it with various types of microphone with the 3.5MM plugs. Note, these need to be power to mic.
