Just to be clear:  If your function keys are set to hardware, then you'll have 
to hit VO FN F2 twice quickly to enter the dashboard menu.  I have not yet 
found a way to delete a widget from this approach, but you can always delete 
them from the widget folder.  The path for the widgets folder you want is
~/library/widgets

Please note for clarity that this is *NOT* the Library folder which is part of 
the home /users/(your user name) directory; it's the LIbrary folder that exists 
two levels up from that toward the root.  

Anyway, you can delete the widgets from that folder.
