If you go into the Apple menu "VO keys plus space should bring you to it) (VO 
equals command and option keys together with the spacebar,)  you can arrow down 
until you hear choices: shut down, sleep, standby, etc.
If/when you are at a complete loss, you can hold down the Power button for 
about two seconds, and you will be asked for confirmation. If you merely want 
the MacBook on standby, simply close it.
