Geoff, Your experience with the hang ups with abbyy FR express mirrors my sighted husband's when he tried this app at school on the macbook the school provides and a scanner which works fine on the Windows side with Omnipage and is, so far as he can tell, twain compliant. He gave up on Abbyy entirely after messing around with it for a while and not being able to get any scanning action at all. the whole process sounds entirely like way too much hassle to me, although I know there are people on this list who use abbyy and say it works great for them. For me, it is a matter of my time and less stress being worth a lot.
