When we speak of multiple steps for operating a scan ocr compouund, i believe
automator or applescript are very powerful to make it happen as quick and easy
as those devices, minus the speed performance of the scans themselves.

If you look at the workflow in laymen, here is what i see:

Add action to folder or service

open image scan

Scan item with preconfigured settings IE 150DPI save file as and location.
This part can actually be braught up before any action is taken for
customizability via an applescript created window with two fields:
-language
-filename

Make an else if condition on whether the scan is finished, ie when the jpg is
created.

Once it is, open with abbey fine reader, save as file on preconfigured folder
with settings found for abbey fine reader in the applescript extensions.

Delete jpg file

To this, you can add another folder action which appends consecutive files and
exports the whole rtf to a pdf.

Problem is, no-one here has the time to write it down. I wanted to yesterday
for a while, but i got so many things going on that i can only try to pass the
torch to someone else :(
