Eric you are in good company as I went totally blind a few months ago too.

Not sure if this will help your problem, but have you tried turning keyboard 
tracking off?  You can do this by pressing VO+Shift+F3, simply press this when 
in the chat window (not the edit box) and then press VO+End if you want to be 
at the bottom of the chat window.
