Doing some troubleshooting. So far, here is what I have.

Without launching the TV app on the Mac, I watch an episode on Apple TV. The time stamp on the library database is correct. I launch the TV app and confirm that episode is marked as watched.

Apple TV is turned off, TV app is closed, and I restart the Mac. Turn on Apple TV and activate the next unwatched episode. Dialog comes up saying content cannot be found. I restart the Apple TV and its good. Crazy.

From E.T.'s Keyboard...
Reality.sys corrupted. Universe halted. Reboot(Y/N) ?

Have you set the option in Settings called something like "Home Sharing Updates Play
Counts"? I think that's supposed to do what you need here.
