This goes out to anyone who has recent experience with HIMS and with their 
braille displays.

I just had a brief chance to demo the new Braille Emotion.  The first thing 
I’ll say is that I loved the device—other than, of course, the fact that it 
doesn’t have a qwerty keyboard.  For those interested, I didn’t have a chance 
to pair it with my Mac, but the pairing with iPhone was easy and flawless.

  Anyway, all was going great until yesterday morning.  When I went to take the 
eMotion off the charger, the unit was warm to the touch. When I turned it on, 
the braille display was behaving like it didn’t have enough power - e.g. the 
dots weren’t retracting or coming up properly, making the braille only barely 
readable.  I also noticed that while the display was on, the left end of the 
unit—the end opposite the charging port, got very hot.  Obviously, this isn’t 
what anyone wants to see when demoing a new display.  I only had the unit for 
one day before all this happened yesterday.  All that said, I’m still 
cautiously considering the display.  I know that may sound crazy, but no matter 
what the product is, it’s possible to get a lemon.  But, I also recognize that 
it could be a flaw in the design, particularly given how new the eMotion is.  
So, my questions for the list.  Anyone have a HIMS display or notetaker?  If 
yes, how often has it had to go in for repairs.  If you have sent a unit in, 
how have you found dealing with HIMS when a unit needs repair?
