Hi,

When in recovery mode, go up to the menubar to Utilities, and down to Terminal.
 Enter the following:

ntpdate -u time.apple.com <http://time.apple.com>

This should tell your Mac to connect to the Apple Time Server and get the
current time for you.

Ok, here’s the thing. I was playing with the trackpad, and I got the WIFI menu

to lose? I pressed command l and typed in a web address. Safari told me that my
system clock was set incorrectly and that the web site could not be opened
because Safari could not guarantee my privacy. I clicked the more details
button and was eventually able to click a button that said that if I understood
the risk that I could connect to the site. And then, I was able to connect to
the site. Now, I must add here that the guy from Apple accessibility I spoke to
had me go into terminal and change the date. He thought that might help. I’m
wondering how I could reset the clock to the correct date using Terminal? I
wonder if that is what might be presenting me from contacting the recovery
server?

Hi,

Anyone who has eyes that work. Basically, it's just an item in one of the
corners of the screen that they click on and the WiFi network choices will
appear. Select the WiFi network you want to connect to, enter the SSID
password, and you're good to go.

Hi,

If you have a USB to ethernet or thunderbolt to ethernet adaptor, and access to
the ethernet ports of your router, then yes. Otherwise, you will need sighted
assistance to connect to the WiFi network. It's quick and easy. Whoever was
helping you would only need to be there for a few minutes since after the WiFi
connection has been made, the rest of the process is totally accessible.

Hi,

If you truly have Internet access, then you should be able to get the Internet
Recovery up using the method I suggested. As long as the power is off first,
and if you have Internet access, the Internet Recovery method will start up
your Mac every time. If your MBA is fried, in the sense of logic board issues
orWiFi card issues, then it will not. If it is a problem with the drive, in
any manner, Internet Recovery will still work.

Hello,

Is this to get internet access? I see Tim suggests that you will need sighted
support to set Wi-Fi up. However, I am pretty sure that I used my 2 USB and
ethernet hub to hardwire to my router. Do you have access to an active ethernet
port a cable and ethernet USB adapter?

Your Air is the same as mine in terms of age. Nice machines.

I bet that will cost me a ton of money which I don’t have.

Hello,

It just occurred to me that the lister needs to provide the machine with
internet access. Either setting up wireless or use a ethernet cable. It would
be helpful if the lister provided the year of the Air too. Whether the lister
remembers the Apple ID and password. Having provided the lister with the steps
from Mac World we haven’t heard a response. I did specifically ask if that was
helpful.

But none of us have answered the question. No, it doesn’t have to go to
hospital the process is accessible via speech and braille.

Have you tried doing the command + r from start up to get back in to the

Or if you have sighted help around,

Try starttting up and hold the option key down until the boot options show and
then select the Mac OS recovery

The only other option would be to use a bootable usb installer which your going
to need to create from a machine with the installation file in the applications

Subject: My Mac is Still Dead

A while back, I wrote to this list to talk about a problem with my MacBook Air.
The problem occurred when I started the process to install High Sierra. I got
distracted by one thing or another, and I mistakenly closed the lid on my
machine. I attempted to restart, and after turning Voice Over on, all I heard
was “installer progress has no windows.” After a number of tries, I managed (I
think) to put my Mac into recovery mode. Since I didn’t have a current time
machine backup, I chose the option to download and install a fresh OS. After
pressing the “continue” button several times, I was told that I was not
entitled to do this by Apple. Now, I have a bit of a hearing loss, and Voice
Over with Fred is not always clear to me, but that’s what it sounded like.

Does anyone on this list have a clue as to how I proceed, or does my Mac have
to go to the hospital?

Any help would be hugely appreciated!
