I personally don’t believe this to be true,

I have a number of times reinstalled from scratch the Mac OS version without
sighted assistance and from a similar state to which you find yourself in.

If you have a USB Flash drive of approx. 8 GB then you could do this yourself
without issue.

Hi Georgina and others,
My MacBook Air is mid 2013. I have internet access. I have also just called
Apple Accessibility. The gentlemen was extremely patient, but he could not
help. He stated that I will need sighted help or I’ll have to go to the Apple
store.
I bet that will cost me a ton of money which I don’t have.

Hello,

It just occurred to me that the lister needs to provide the machine with
internet access. Either setting up wireless or use a ethernet cable. It would
be helpful if the lister provided the year of the Air too. Whether the lister
remembers the Apple ID and password. Having provided the lister with the steps
from Mac World we haven’t heard a response. I did specifically ask if that was
helpful.

But none of us have answered the question. No, it doesn’t have to go to
hospital the process is accessible via speech and braille.

Have you tried doing the command + r from start up to get back in to the
recovery console again and start re installing things?

Or if you have sighted help around,

Try starttting up and hold the option key down until the boot options show and
then select the Mac OS recovery

The only other option would be to use a bootable usb installer which your going
to need to create from a machine with the installation file in the applications
folder.

Subject: My Mac is Still Dead

A while back, I wrote to this list to talk about a problem with my MacBook Air.
The problem occurred when I started the process to install High Sierra. I got
distracted by one thing or another, and I mistakenly closed the lid on my
machine. I attempted to restart, and after turning Voice Over on, all I heard
was “installer progress has no windows.” After a number of tries, I managed (I
think) to put my Mac into recovery mode. Since I didn’t have a current time
machine backup, I chose the option to download and install a fresh OS. After
pressing the “continue” button several times, I was told that I was not
entitled to do this by Apple. Now, I have a bit of a hearing loss, and Voice
Over with Fred is not always clear to me, but that’s what it sounded like.
Does anyone on this list have a clue as to how I proceed, or does my Mac have
to go to the hospital?
Any help would be hugely appreciated!
