Pardon me if I'm telling you something you already know, but there's a reason why reading text files across multiple environments can create problems. The reason is historical. Here's the basic reason:
On Linux/Unix the line termination char is a Ctrl+J On Macintosh it's Ctrl+M On Windows it's both Ctrl+J and Ctrl+M together. There are tools for converting among these formats at the command line. On my Linux I have two apps called dos2unix and unix2dos which handle these things. There are apps which will spot the problem when you load a text file and offer to do, or simply do the conversion for you on the fly. Problem here is that you need such an app on up to three separate environments. hth Janina 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries writes: > Simon, > I don't know what that is but have been trying different things and have > determined I should avoid plain text formats.
