Have you looked at your VO settings to see if things there are set to miss edit fields.

I've found that VO jumps to the beginning sometimes when I stop to think between typing. the best thing I've found is to just not use VO navigation when composing eMails, that is, just arrow navigation. Option-right/left navigates word by word, up/down goes line by line and right/left goes character by character. Works for now. Later...
