Hey Simon,
Who can ignore the fact that the world is going digital at the speed
of light? So fast that the bad guys find the holes faster than the good
guys can say Jack Robinson. That is really where the problem lies. Too
many wanna be geeks who install these things and do not take the time to
read the instructions. Wifi, there is at least one around here who is
open secure, meaning, I know the brand of router so since its owner did
not change the SSID, likely the user ID and password is still the defaults.
Its wonderful technology but its not risk free. And yes Scott is a
GEEK which is why he does not get it. (smiles)

Hey guys,
Did you ever think that this is the way the world is going?
Walk in to a room and say lights on, or tv on, Voice recognition is coming
along with leaps and bounds so the echo and the siri speaker are things that we
will sooner rather than later have in our homes to work with home automation
It's just that apple and amozon are the ones leading the way currently
But I also don't see myself at this oint getting one unless it's really going
to be able to help with things such as paying my bills by giving it payment
instructions or telling me what the answer to my top 10 questions in life are,
But lets just wait and see what is coming.

Kaeal,
You are in point. What I was saying was, don't make a judgement before the facts are
known. Saying "I will not buy this because Siri is not that good" falls flat.
I also am not interested in an Echo. First, I do not see a reason for one.
Second, my budget is not where I could splurge on it. Third, why on earth do I
want to have a conversation with a box?!

Those of you who say that one should not speculate, about things, how about if
I said that speculation is what the whole world does. After all, and I'll be
blunt here, people speculate all the time, especially the media, as they
speculate every day when they write in their papers, they make judgments all
the time as to what might happen next. In fact, the human race do live on
speculation or the world would not be exciting. Life would be dull if one did
not speculate, if things were predictable, then life would be boring! So I
will not apologise when i say what I say about Apple.
I have never been interested in an Amazon Echo as my phone can tell me what I
need to know even if it's a bit dim. Why do I need a speaker who will have a
conversation with me? I don't get why people are excited by an echo. May be I
am missing something? Please enlighten me.
Kawal.

Kawal,
Being this product has not even been previewed at the WWDC yet, speculation
can be a fascinating day dream. Maybe Siri is not up to snuff currently. Does
not mean that it will remain so. Wait for the WWDC before passing judgement.

It's got to do a lot more than that if I were to purchase anything like that.
If it's just a play back device with a few features added and (Siri not as good
as having conversations with you), then I can't see anyone buying the speakers.

Simon, it’s basically Siri in a box and from what I’ve read the box has some
higher end audio features as well so it can double as an audio playback device.

It's probably just a rumor, but it would be cool if they do make one.

Hi.
I was listening to a blindness TechTalk show which is one of the
shows that RNIB broadcast on their RNIB Connect radio. On it
they stated that Apple would be introducing a new Apple Speaker
which I suppose would be in competition with Amazon Echo or something along
those lines, I don't know.
Anyone heard about this speaker?
Thanks.
Kawal.
