I’m using a 21 inch iMac which is right next to the router and 8TB my book. I don’t know how to use share protocols or what they are. The my book uses something called ready share. If you’re on your Mac connected can you select the WiFi extended options by selecting WiFi while holding down option and tell me what your TX rate, channel and noise / signal DB readings are? I’m not sure it’s a WiFi issue. I do have the Mybook drive connected to the USB3 port on the side of the Netgear 8500. Unfortunately, I haven’t found an 8TB network drive or I would have just used that. However, one thing I did is to set up iTunes on my windows machine. I got some sighted help to try to download the same TV shows I was trying to download on my Mac. WindowsItunes isn’t the friendliest program😊. The same file would take 3-4 hours to download on the Mac, but I downloaded it between 20-25 minutes on the windows 10 PC. Both PC and Mac are using WiFi. I’m beginning to think it’s something I need to set up on the Mac to make the transfer speed faster. The PC was way faster downloading the same file. Twenty five minutes is way better than 4 hours. I’d hate to see how long it would take to download a movie on the Mac. hope this helps. Here’s another test, could you attach the Mac to a wired port and do a comparable test to see whether the problem is WiFi related or something further up the stack? Thanks and BTW I have the exact setup. I use an 8500 running native Netgear software (1.2.0.94 I believe) and I’m using directly attached network storage instead of the built in USB option so there’s a little difference.
