Hi Donna,

I have to admit I’m more a windows user than a mac user,
But the times I have tried to use word 2016 on the mac,
I’ve found it more of an issue than the windows version,
Part of this I think is familiarity of the product,
But my question would be why do you have to use word when pages can do pretty
much the same thing now days?

As for windows on your mac,
you need to go with what is going to work for you the best.
Office 2016 needs jaws 18 where as vo will work with office 2016 on the mac.
Probably not that helpful but I think for most usage you’d be fine with office
for the mac

Hi John,

Thank you. This is really helpful and good to know. I'm hoping I can just
install Word, and not have to deal with the whole office suite, but I am not
sure about that yet.

Just curious, is there anyone on list who has experience with both using Word
for the Mac, and running Word in Windows using Fusion? Which gives the better
experience in Word? That's obviously another option. I have no interest in
polluting my Mac by putting Windows on it, but if there is a good reason to, I
would consider it.
Cheers,
Donna

Donna,

I have certainly used Word 2016 on the Macintosh with no major issues. I have
not tried anything complex however. Office 2016 has both Macintosh style menus
and also a ribbon, I believe there are more options embedded in the ribbon,
though the ribbon is not as keyboard interactive as it is on Windows. You have
to interact with the ribbon, select the category from the top row, then move
down and interact one more time to get to all the controls there. I expect that
one could use the item chooser in two quickly get to a ribbon item, but I have
only tried that in Outlook where even in my 2016 15 inch Mac Book Pro I escape
out of the item chooser before it brings up a list of items because it is too
slow.. (500 messages in inbox)

                        Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Hi all,

On a related note, can anyone give me the current status of Office,
specifically Word, on the Mac? I'm looking at some contract work that would
require me to use Word, so trying to figure out whether to do it on a PC, or
whether I could just use my Mac.
Cheers,
Donna

MY fault. I should have looked at the group I was responding too.
However, I have outlook 2016 on my IPhone and, do find it a lot easier to
use then the apple mail app.

I find that it conveniently separates mailing list messages from messages
addressed directly to me, and it does so automatically. The notifications it
creates on the lock screen are also useful. I think Microsoft Outlook for iOS
demonstrates that programmers in Redmond have been paying attention to
accessibility.

I have it installed on the Mac as well, but I haven't had enough experience
with that version to comment. Basic accessibility is present, but I don't know
how good it is or what limitations may exist.
