Maybe I’m just old school, but despite the fact I use iCloud so much, I am a 
believer in hard backups for my devices. I don’t connect to my Mac frequently, 
but I still do. I also encourage my clients to consider doing so to their Macs 
or PCs. However, as you said, it’s a subjective matter indeed.
