Alas, no. It isn’t a stretch to say that Usenet is obsolete, and the Mac just doesn’t lend itself to it nowadays.
Unison 1 was all right. Then Unison 2 came out, and broke what little accessibility the previous version had. And anyway, Unison isn’t really suited as a general-purpose newsreader. I finally had news mailed to me by a copy of Mailman installed on my personal VPS. Eventually, though, even this became too much of a hassle: the site I most frequently read news from had such strict posting rules that it wasn’t really feasible to accurately do more than just read by email. Read-only Usenet access got pretty old pretty quickly, so I cut my losses and simply stopped following or contributing, and learned to live and love the loss, and accept the dubious joys of modern web forums instead. And after all, it’s not that great of a loss: if it isn’t on the web or a mailing list, it’s not very discoverable anyway.
