Hello, This may seem slightly convoluted, but if you are using a Logitech H800 bluetooth/wireless headset, then I have had this issue on a couple of occasions. In my case, it seems that I need to pair the headset with a bluetooth device, so I just "flip the switch," let the headset be recognized by my iPhone, then insert the USB adaptor, "flip the switch," once again, and I'm off to the races so-to-speak. This usually resolves my problem. As to why it occurs I cannot answer that, but the method I outlined above does seem to help resolve the problem. (This only occurs once every few months or so, so not a big deal). In an extreme case, more recently however, I had to actually unpair the headset from the iPhone completely, then repair the headset to the iPhone, allow it to be recognized by the iPhone, which let me know a signal was being transmitted, then repair the headset to the computer via the USB adaptor. (I am using a mid 2010 iMac).
Again, I am not sure if this describes your problem, but if these steps do help, then great. If not, then I hope you are able to find an alternative solution to your problem.
