I think its worth trying.  All other minor downloads and installations are 
reasonable along with email processing and refreshing my message list.  They 
are all pretty rapid.  

I can tell you that the day I did the update to Yosemite it started around 3 in 
the afternoon and at around midnight that night it was still going.  This was a 
month or two back so I think it was a combination of both the downloads and 
installations.  I could not believe how long it took!

I don't know that you'll see much difference, though. I can easily get 2MB 
download speeds on the wifi here, and that's with a relatively poor connection 
(thanks, cheap TWC routers) on a 2012 Macbook Air. Generally, ethernet is great 
for local network transfers, but not as advantageous for internet-based 
downloads. It's worth a try, certainly, but I don't know that you'll get the 
speed boost you hope for.
