Ann,

But, how much ability will she get! with Word files, or Pages files?

I mean, won't you lose most of the formatting? I don't even think you really
can design a Word, or Pages file very effectively with Text Edit, can you? I
mean, I know T E has some! formatting abilities, but I think it's designed
more as a basic text editer, than it is a, in Stacy's words, word processor.
Am I incorrect on this assumption?

Not trying to be an asshole. I mean, if it works for her needs, and if it's
easier for her, then more power tooer, but personally, I'd try to get the hang
of Pages.

I can't exactly say I prefer nor like it either, but for some of the things I
have to type/edit, I really don't have much of a choice but! to learn how to
use it. I'm not you by any means. I probably only know the very very most
basics of Pages, if even that, but I can at least get by.

Chris.

  Hello Stacey,

You have to do this for each type of file you want to edit with TextEdit. So,
normally, RTF will open with TextEdit but DOC and DOCX will have to be changed.

Select a file of the type you wish to change and press Cmd-i to open the
Information window.
  Interact with the scroll area.
Press VO-i for the Item Chooser and type the letters “op” to find Open with.
If the disclosure triangle is collapsed, press VO-Space to expand it.
Navigate right once and press VO-Space on the menu button.
Type the letters “te” for TexteEdit then press Return.
Navigate right to Use this application to open all documents like this one
and continue right to the button.
If the button is dimmed, you’ll need to go to the end of the window to unlock
the padlock which requires you to type in your admin password.

  Cheers,

  Anne

    Hi,
Can someone tell me if there is a way to make text edit my default word
processor?
I don’t care for Pages at all.
