TexEdit isn't going to be able to open Pages documents, so if you ever get a 
file of that format, you won't have much of a choice.

As for things like Word d documents, you may be able to open them, but I'm 
99.999% sure it won't save them.

What in Pages are you having issues with?  I mean, by default, Text Edit should 
be openning RTF files, and TXT files, but if you're trying to go beyond that 
with Text Edit, it's not gonna happehn.
