I was. Oddly, switching out of, then back to, Pages seemed to get it working.
One final question on placeholder text: when I read the line holding the text,
I hear only the placeholder. For example:

Client name: [client name placeholder]

If I read that line, I hear the embedded object sound, "client name
placeholder", then the end embedded object sound. The rest of the line doesn't
read at all. Is this expected behavior?
