Thanks, and the price of the ripper sounds perfect. How much does on
DVD take up? This will help me figure out which storage option is best
for me.
I have been thinking about Airport too and I was reading somewhere,
I see that Apple TV can work with Airport. A lot to work out, but the
storage part will come first.

Hello, yes you would be able to stream your DVD play back to the appleTV. But
ripping them, and importing them to your iTunes library is what I would
suggest. I use a 16TB NAS to store my iTunes library, others use USB external
drives, and some still house there iTunes library on there mac's or PC's
internal drive. What ever works best for you. I store it on the nas for a few
reasons, not to take up all my space on my internal hard drive, to be ready to
go if I do a clean install, or get a new computer, and just to have a reserved
copy just in case my other backups faile. For ripping dvd's I recommend
MacDVDRiperPro. It's about 20 bucks USD, and is 100 percent accessible. You
can even have the file go directly to iTunes when it is done, so you don't have
to worry about doing it yourself. HTH

I am thinking about this as an option for next year. I have a pile of DVDs.
Would this be something I could do? Rip the DVDs (rather than play each
individually in the DVD drive) and then stream to the Apple TV? Would the
Macbook have to be in the same room? TV is downstairs, the Mac is upstairs. Can
the iPad or iPhone be used to act as a remote? I know Apple has a Remote app.
What ripping application is suggested? I am guessing that well over 100 DVDs
would take up lots of space, so can they be stored and played on an external
drive?
