Hello, yes you would be able to stream your DVD play back to the appleTV. But ripping them, and importing them to your iTunes library is what I would suggest. I use a 16TB NAS to store my iTunes library, others use USB external drives, and some still house there iTunes library on there mac's or PC's internal drive. What ever works best for you. I store it on the nas for a few reasons, not to take up all my space on my internal hard drive, to be ready to go if I do a clean install, or get a new computer, and just to have a reserved copy just in case my other backups faile. For ripping dvd's I recommend MacDVDRiperPro. It's about 20 bucks USD, and is 100 percent accessible. You can even have the file go directly to iTunes when it is done, so you don't have to worry about doing it yourself. HTH
