I don't use the preview pane, which is how vo-j lets you read a message, 
because doing so will mark a message ad "read" once I arrow past it, even if I 
don't read it. What I can say is that I'm back in standard view for now, 
because there's a bug in classic view where VoiceOver says that every message 
is a conversation. This gets very verbose, and it wasn't worth dealing with. 
Standard view works just fine, though.
