If you install Mavericks again without reformatting first, you'll end up upgrading the OS you already have, or repairing a copy of Mavericks you already have. You may even find that if you run Software Update, you are offered updates you already installed. That's about the extent of it. To get the benefits of a clean install, you actually have the wipe the original installation out.
