I still use Apple Mail. I don't use Gmail anymore, but even when I did, I 
didn't have any major problems aside from the usual IMAP oddities, which are 
Gmail's fault and not Apple's. What problems are you running into? Perhaps they 
can be fixed, and you don't need to switch. To my knowledge, there is not much 
in the way of accessible mail clients for OS X aside from the default one.
