You are correct that the processor is not upgradeable so if you can't afford to get everything at once the processor is one thing you'll be stuck with for the life of the machine. RAM is pretty easy to upgrade. The downside is you will have two slots with two 2GB SO-DIMMs so to upgrade to 8GB you'll have to take the existing two out and throw them away or sell them to somebody else. That said, I have 3GB in my older model MacBook Pro and that works quite well. So 4GB should last a bit before you spring for the bigger RAM. I'm told you can do a hard drive swap as well but it involves pulling out a lot of tiny screws and, as you mentioned, moving all your stuff from the old drive to the new one. So if you can afford it I'd get a bigger drive now but that's not something you have to live with down the road. Of course I'm getting along pretty well with only a 111GB drive so 320GB would be downright roomy.
