Thats Exactly Right. You can never have too much protection from problems on 'the grid'
In any case Mike How old is your surge suppressor? They only have a finite lifespan and although they still pass through power after a surge it may be dead and not stop further surges. Most filter boards will only stop 1 or 2 decent surges, unless your using it on the back of a power conditioner of course ;) Can you see or get a sighted person to check the leds on the board? there should be 2 lit (usually) one noting that power is on, the other noting that filtering is also working. if this is not the case and there is only the power one lit its time to relegate that board to the "not working" pile . it will still function perfectly as a power board just not as a filter.
