Hi.

1: Check how many widgets you are running. You can do this by pressing  
the f12 key and then bring up the window chooser. If you never use the  
widgets, I highly recommend you to close them by pressing VO command f2.
2: How many windows have you opened in your Finder? Try closing them  
all by continuesly pressing command w.
3: How many applications starts up when you log in to your user  
account? You can check that in the accounts settings in System  
preferences, but I don't remember where to disable them.
