LOL, Troubleshooters.Com has a policy against using Memoir. It can be convenient, and it has the best book layout documentation on the planet, but it's too different, and it conflicts with hyperref, and just requires a hell of a lot of tweaking. To my way of thinking, either you should ALWAYS use Memoir or NEVER use it, and I've chosen the latter. Because you need to be a Memoir expert to use it. Out of self defense, every book I've written in the past five years was made with a document class I personally derived directly from plain old Book.
