Thanks all for the advices, I don't even attach the last mails cause they are too many! anyway I tried the three programs you suggested (adoberead, kpdf and xpdf) and I really can't tell which works best ... I'll check for trutype fonts installations on ubuntu later: I have to install LyX first (so I am afraid that the "moving to linux..." will become a series!)
