When I look at that using an Adobe7.0 plugin to Firefox it looks very
nice.  Perhaps you could post a screenshot indicating the problem?
Otherwise you could receive as many different responses as there are
combinations of PDF viewer and OS!
It's less good in xpdf or kpdf. This is a known problem, I believe. The default LaTeX fonts tend not to look so good in the xpdf-based readers. Changing the font, to Times, say, should solve the problem.
