What is your display driver?
I'm using a Matrox G450 PCI and it uses the mga driver of Xfree86-4.4.0.
Have you checked the XFree86.log for Warnings/Errors?
Yes, but there are no error messages reported in it.
Did it work well with XFree86 4.3.0 drivers?
No, the mga driver in 4.3.0 didn't work at all. First at startup the monitor complains that "the frequencies are out of range" and gives only a black screen with this big red warning. After about 10 seconds X starts up but looks like a scrambeled TV channel. With the mga driver in 4.4.0 I also get the red warning but after that X starts up just fine, and I haven't had any problem with other programs after upgrading to 4.4.0.
What X Extensions do you have enabled (xfb, xrandr,....)
Are these loaded by /etc/X11/XF86Config? If so then then there are no X extensions enabled afaik.
