Hi, James. The .cls file is used by LaTeX to typeset your document, but is essentially an irrelevance to LyX. LyX needs an nih.layout file. Looking at nih.cls, it doesn't define any new environments and derives from the standard LaTeX 'article' class. (I think.) That being the case, I think that it is sufficient to define an nih.layout file that LyX can use as: #% Do not delete the line below; configure depends on this # \DeclareLaTeXClass[nih]{NIH Grant Proposal} Input article.layout Put this in your $HOME/.lyx/layouts directory, reconfigure and restart LyX and cross your fingers ;-) When you restart LyX you should find "NIH Grant Proposal" in the document class list of the Document dialog. -- Angus
