Maria, I don't know, but I can try. The only time I used a Mac (in 1989) I locked it up in less than 2 minutes because all I saw were pictures and I had no idea what they represented. Are you using OS X? If so that's sufficiently linux that commands I know should work. First thing is to find out if ispell is installed on your system. Try 'locate ispell', or 'whereis ispell', or even 'which ispell'. On this system, the latter command returns '/usr/bin/ispell' so I know the executable is present and where it's located. Second thing is to tell LyX what spell checker to use. Start with the Edit menu and take that to the second entry from the bottom (Preferences). The second heading in the list widget on the left is "Language Settings". Click on the small, square box to the left and it will open a sub-menu with two entries: Language and Spellchecker. Click on the latter and see if 'ispell' is in the top data entry widget. If not, enter it and click on "OK". If it is, I'll pass to someone who knows LyX more intimately than do I.
