Paul,

No. Only Microsoft OSes permit spaces, no others do. LyX started as a
linux front end to LaTeX which are unix tools. The ports to Winduhs are a
convenience.

What I find ironic is how many Microserfs eagerly adopt all the open
source applications ported from linux to Winduhs but won't defenestrate and
make the change to a real OS (inherently multi-tasking and multi-user).

I'm using LyX on Linux and not on Windows! In fact, I'm exclusively using RH 9 on my laptop!

4. Finally, the PDF/Acrobat problem: I've read the help file on the poor
quality of LyX to PDF output when displayed through Acrobat Reader and,
despite my best attempts, couldn't understand how to fix this. Again, is
there a "clear" 1-2-3 method to work around this rather irritating
issue? (I'm using RH 9)

I haven't see this with either acroread or xpdf. The output displays just fine. Sometimes, however, I need to zoom in a bit to get rid of the 'greeking'.

I'm talking about Acrobat reader for Windows. Whether we like it or not, some of us DO have to use Windows in our workplaces...
