screen updating

Has anyone else noticed screen update problems with lyx (I'm using 1.2.1
for mandrake 9.0).  For example, quite often when I use the pull down
menus the whole system will freeze for 10 or 20 seconds.  Or if I try to
expand the size of the whole lyx window the contents won't redraw
properly for ages, if at all.  Presumably these are bugs in the
windowing library that lyx uses and not lyx but I thought I would
mention it.
