Herbert, I had made those changes. The immediate problem was the bibliographic style in Settings. I neglected to check that and change from Natbib (Bibtex) to Biblatex (Natbib). That was the cause. All fixed now. And a valuable lesson for me: check all settings on older docs being upgraded.
