The runaway string messages suggest that biblatex is choking on something in your reference file, but as I mentioned just now on the list, without the .bib file we can't diagnose anything specific. Note that copying from the .bib file and pasting into an email message may not help, because the copy/paste sequence has been known to change the encodings of some strings. I periodically need to copy stuff from an IDE (such as RStudio) and paste it into an email address, and quotation marks and a few other characters get mangled in the process. So I copy from RStudio, paste into a text editor, copy from the text editor, paste into the email message, and everything magically works.
Paul, I view/edit the database .bib file in emacs. It's all plain ASCII text. Regardless, there're no secrets in my scientific references database. I just uploaded a copy to fileconvoy from where it can be downloaded over the next 5 days: <http://www.fileconvoy.com/dfl.php?id=gdc3071f4019f6594100038407708b82b5242c236fc> I'd sure like to get this all fixed once-and-for-all.
