We should make it clear that "child" is not a fixed property of a document,
but a role. Thus, a document can function as a child (when another
document, to which it is included, is compiled) or a document of its own
(when it is compiled by itself). It can even function as a master to other
children (if you embed the \include in branches that are deactivated from
the document's master).
