About Wordprocessors I know nothing. In Emacs I can do this. Currently
I use Emacs with Auctex and Reftex to write my papers. Sometimes I try
LyX. The advantage of LyX is WYSIWYM. When you have many headlines,
item-lists and so on, the LaTeX-Code in an editor becomes more and
more complex. Not very readable.
But often I must deliver a text with a defined length so I use the
command-on-region-feature in Emacs.
